This book is a memoir of Bomnal, a Korean woman who was in prostitution for a long time, survived and escaped it. Her experience reveals the violence and exploitation of prostitution.
She became an activist against sexual exploitation, and through this book, she has reflected on and reinterpreted her experience, and continues to fight against this violence today.
Bomnal strongly argues that there is no such thing as a safe sex trade, and she exposes the brutal realities of what the prostitution is truly about. The detailed description of the violence inherent in prostitution is something only women who were “there” could have known. Through reading this book, we witness the inhumane violence and exploitation with no end in sight, and we are reminded of how much effort it took to write it. What is required of us after reading it is the responsibility to understand, and join in the fight against this form of oppression, together.
