Loujain Al-Hathloul and other Saudi Arabia women’s rights activists were arrested on May 15th and are currently imprisoned. The Saudi government has smeared the group as traitors, alleging that they are working with “foreign entities”. In response, a local group of women who attended UBC with Loujain, organized a rally on May 30th to call attention to her detention. They call on the international community to press for her immediate release. Vancouver Rape Relief joined the rally and the demand to release Loujain and her co-organizers. We echo Saudi feminist’s call to abolish the male guardianship system that suppresses women’s movement and agency. No woman is free until all women are free.
