For Immediate Release

Vancouver, BC, November 16, 2011 – Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter is hosting their first annual Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser on Friday, November 18, 2011.

The Bowl-A-Thon is a fun and exciting approach to raising funds and awareness for bowlers of all ages and abilities. The event will be held at Grandview Lanes (2195 Commercial Drive, Vancouver, B.C.) from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM.

Support from the community is already pouring in with 14 teams signed up, and teams as big as 10 people, all putting in their best efforts to raise money for Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter. “So far over half of our financial goal has been raised and more funds are still coming in,” said Crystal Wong a member of Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter. From corporate sponsored teams, student teams, to spunky teams with catchy names like Lez Rock and Bowl, bowlers are collecting pledges from friends, family, co-workers and neighbours everywhere. Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter is committed to ending violence against women and as a non-profit we rely on the generous contributions of the communities around us to thrive.

Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter is mostly volunteer-run with extremely low administrative costs, so the funds raised truly goes a long way in directly helping women in need. The money raised through this Bowl-A-Thon will fund everyday operational costs, such as the crisis centre telephone lines, and groceries and repairs for the transition house.

Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter is a non-profit organization that provides shelter, food, safety and support to battered women and children. It operates a transition house and a 24-hour rape crisis centre, and offers advocacy and accompaniment to hospitals, courts, police and government ministries.
