Press Release: The Women's Equality and Security Coalition Denounces the Missing Women's Inquiry Policy Forums
The Women’s Equality & Security Coalition
Denounces the Missing Women Commission of Inquiry Policy Forums
Vancouver –The Women’s Equality and Security Coalition (WESC), a coalition of women’s organizations, is committed to the protection and advancement of women’s liberty, dignity, security and equality. The coalition refuses to participate in the Missing Women Commission of Inquiry Policy Forums.
WESC is deeply shocked by the way the Inquiry has unfolded, including by recent revelations of discriminatory attitudes toward women inside the Inquiry itself. WESC does not wish to lend credibility by participating in a process that has become so profoundly flawed.
WESC does not believe that under the current circumstances, the Inquiry will produce a comprehensive and meaningful response to the failures of the criminal justice system in relation to male violence against women in general and to the missing and murdered prostituted women in particular.
WESC groups remain committed to the safety, equality and liberty of all women and will continue this work in other venues.
