Join us on Saturday, September 8, for an evening of feminist art and conversation.
6:00pm Reception
7:00pm Program
At Vancouver Rape Relief’s Education & Documentation Centre, 652 Kingsway, Vancouver, BC
We will be showcasing the work of the feminist art collective, Arena en la Vagina, based in Guanajuato City, Mexico. Their work centers on art making in resistance to harassment, rape, and sexual assault. Two of their members will be in attendance and will discuss the context in which they create art and how they have collected and communicated women’s stories of male violence through this medium. Their beautiful prints will be available for sale (please have cash on hand).
It is through the First International Gathering for Women in Struggle hosted by the Zapatista women in Chiapas, Mexico, that Vancouver Rape Relief was introduced to Arena en la Vagina. We look forward to sharing with you some experiences from the Gathering and examining how building a culture of resistance that is rich in art, music, dance, and sport advances the women’s liberation movement.
